Biography: Mary had uttered (paid with) three forged £2 bank notes, attempting to defraud George Ashworth at Manchester. She also had another fourteen forged £1 bank notes in her possession.
Mary was on the list of women who were meant to be transported onboard the Canada but for an unknown reason (likely being certified as in poor health by the castle’s surgeon) she remained at Lancaster. Nine years later, Like a number of other female felons in 1818, she was transferred to Preston’s House Of Correction on the 20th January that year; building work to demolish the medieval dungeon tower where female felons were held in Lancaster Castle was taking place to build a new female penitentiary. Mary was given a free pardon whilst at Preston House Of Correction in November 1819.
