Biography: Mary was the wife of John Williams of Liverpool who along with Elizabeth Shaw had stolen from a John Golding. She left Lancaster Castle and was transferred to Preston’s House of Correction on the 20th January 1818 as building work was taking place to demolish the historic dungeon tower, where female felons were held and build a brand new female wing in its place.

Unlike Elizabeth who was transported, Mary was given a free pardon whilst at Preston House of Correction in November 1819.
