Biography: Jane, a silk weaver, stole fifty pieces of a fabric called sarsnet at Manchester along with two men- John Norcliffe (alias Rhodes) and John Price and Mary Norcliffe, belonging to John & Jane Mather and John Lomax. They had been held at the New Bailey jail on remand from the previous sessions whilst a certain witness was sought. Jane and the men were convicted with John’s wife Mary acquitted.

Jane received a ticket of leave in 1811 and her certificate of freedom in May 1814. Originally from London, she was 4ft 11 with a sallow complexion, black hair and dark eyes.

In 1816, Jane was described as being wife to Thomas Wilson, in 1818 and 19 as a housekeeper. In 1820 and 21 Jane was recorded as single but in 1822 she was again recorded as T Wilson’s wife though it doesn’t appear they formally married. Jane died within St Philips parish on the 11th June 1823, she was 47.
