Biography: Clarissa had stolen 20 hankerchiefs from her employer, Francis Philips Esq and his sons of Bank Hall, Heaton Norris, Stockport. She was described as having been born in Manchester and had a sallow complexion, light hazel eyes, brown hair, a long scar near the inside of her wrist and had had four children, though only one was now living. Her husband was a joiner and they lived at Bootle St, Deansgate in the city. They were dissenters.

Clarissa was sent to Millbank jail in London where she was described as being ‘of good character’. From there, she was pardoned and discharged on the 5th April 1824. Ten years later, she would be jailed at Salford for another six months.
