Biography: Catherine was the wife of John Welch. She had stolen lace ‘from the assignees of J.Watts’ and was described by the ship’s surgeon following the voyage as having been “quiet and industrious”. Catherine was assigned as a servant on arrival and was recorded as such in 1819. In 1820, the muster notes her as single at Sydney.

Catherine’s time in Australia was brief; only two years after arriving she died, aged 32 on the 2 November 1820 at the Liverpool hospital after suffering from fits. She was buried the following day in what is now the Liverpool Pioneers’ Memorial Park.
