Biography: Ann had stolen a type of fabric known as diaper (which has a diamond shaped pattern). She left Lancaster Castle for Long Reach, Gravesend with the other Lancaster women around the middle of December 1805.

Ann married James Byrne in February 1808 at St Phillips and it seems she received her certificate of freedom a year early, recorded as February 1811.

However, by 1816 Ann is variously recorded as a widow, in 1818 as a housekeeper, in 1819 as married and in 1820/1 as a widow again. She may have begun a common law relationship and adopted another surname, making tracing her any further difficult.
