Biography: Margaret had uttered a forged £1 note at Manchester to a Thomas Harland and was found having three more in her possession. She was described whilst at Lancaster Castle as having a fair complexion with grey eyes, brown hair and was 4ft 10 1/2. She was married with one child and had been born at Steanden near Bu(x/r)ton (possibly either Staden, Buxton or Stanton, Burton Upon Trent).

Margaret was sent to Millbank jail in London in December the same year. After being held held at some stage between 1822 and 24 onboard HMS Dromedary at Woolwich, which was being temporarily used as a hospital ship a mutiny took place on board, Margaret and others not only behaved ‘meritoriously’ but assisted the guards to take back control. For this, she was pardoned and discharged on the 30th April 1824.
