Biography: Jane was a widow of Manchester. She had stolen a bed quilt belonging to John Barnsley. She was probably the same Jane Singleton who had already been convicted in 1789, 1791 and 1792.

It was requested by John Higgin, the governor of Lancaster Castle that Jane, along with Elizabeth Kearsley in November 1795 that they be transferred to Preston House of Correction where there was more room (during building works at the castle) and they could serve out there sentences usefully employed as they were too old to be transported. After two years there, they would be given free pardons.
