Biography: Catherine had received stolen goods belonging to Robert Bradley taken by her 18 year old son Thomas Smith (who also received seven years transportation, ship- Ocean) at Manchester. She had been born at Leith, Scotland and was described as having grey eyes, brown hair, and a sallow complexion. Her husband worked for Galloway and Bowman machine makers. It seems unlikely that she saw her son Thomas again after 1824 as he was sent to Port Macquarie for the remainder of his term for committing a further burglary.
Catherine was assigned to a James Wiltshire of George St at arrival as a servant. She was still there at the 1825 muster. Like her son, Catherine also re-offended in Sydney, stealing spoons and other articles from a house belonging to Joseph Flynn and was jailed in December 1826. By the end of the month she died in the female factory and was buried at St Johns Cemetery in Parramatta on the 3rd January 1827, aged 58.
