Biography: Elizabeth (Betty), a single woman of Manchester had already been jailed at Manchester for six months for stealing clothing in 1799 and a further year in 1800. In 1802 she was again jailed, this time for two years at Lancaster. A year after release, in 1805, she stole a child’s frock (dress), the property of Ann Jackman.
She was still at Lancaster Castle 1811 and appears to serve out her sentence there, she would have been freed the following year. Interestingly late in 1812, a Betty Rooker, alias Rowcroft is again jailed for another year for stealing a shift from a Mary Booth in Manchester.
