Biography: Ellen was a single woman from Manchester who had stolen muslin. She had already been imprisoned two years before for a similar fabric theft. A letter sent to Sheriff of Lancaster requesting that Ellen and the other women be provided with 2 spare shifts, 2 dozen pairs of stockings, 2 dozen handkerchiefs and a pair of shoes before their sailing.

Ellen was recorded as free by servitude in 1806 and was ‘self- employed’. In 1807 she married John Perry (ship- Britannia 1791) but there are no further records of him suggesting he either left or died. Ellen was accused of pick pocketing a drunk and very elderly male convict in 1810 but despite being pronounced ‘a vagrant’ the charge against her was dropped. She gained her certificate of freedom in March 1811 but died only three years later in February 1814, recorded as aged 35. She was buried in the Old Sydney Burial Ground.
