Biography: Dorothy was from Rufford, Ormkirk. She was a servant to Sir Thomas Dalrymple Hesketh, Baronet at Rufford Old Hall and it was here that she stole £40 in bank notes then set fire to the house to try and cover her tracks in June 1820.

Dorothy was sent to Millbank jail in London in November 1820. There, she was described as having brown eyes, dark brown hair, some small pox scarring to her face, 5 ft 3 1/2 tall and a burn scar on left arm. She was single and had been of good character whilst in prison. She was discharged by pardon on the 12th May 1824 and left Millbank in September of that year, ‘having friends or relation who could immediately receive her’.
