Biography: Mary gave a forged one pound note to a James Mackay at Liverpool along with Patrick McCormick who was also transported (ship- Atlas). This is presumably Mary’s brother or another relative rather than husband.
In New South Wales, she was originally sent to William Howe at Molles Main Estate, Liverpool and then sent to the female factory. In June 1820 Mary was given permission to marry William Williams at the estate (ship- Morley) but no marriage took place. In April 1821, permission was given for Mary to marry Samuel Hammond (ship- Fortune) but again no marriage took place and instead, she married convict William Hardacre (ship- Batavia) in August 1821. In 1824, Mary was still employed by William Howe at Minto though her home was noted as Macquarie St in Sydney with her husband. In 1825, Mary was sent to the female factory for three months after ‘living in a state of prostitution with a John Spinks, having not lived with her husband for 12 months’. The 1828 census shows Mary and William living on Kent Street- no children are recorded and after this time I have not found any further information on her.
