Biography: Mary had been convicted, along with Alice Embly and two males of stealing £100 in bills of exchange and a knife belonging to a William Ratcliffe, a traveller passing along Back Piccadilly in Manchester. Alice Embly had been the instigator and had carried out the mugging, Mary got away. Alice had been seen passing words to Mary whilst she watched from the public gallery during her examination by police and police arrested Mary too.

In the Lancaster Castle description book, Mary was described as being ‘Born at Liverpool with a pale complexion, dark brown eyes, brown hair, wide nostrils, ears pierced, single woman and tattooed with the intials ‘JK, IK, MA’ right arm’. Mary was sent to Millbank jail in London. From there, she was pardoned and discharged on the 6th November 1829.
