Biography: Margaret was arrested in Liverpool along with Mary Pimblott and Isabella Hammill. She had put away to Thomas Pennington one forged pound Bank of England note. Margaret was sent from Lancaster Castle to await transportation at Millbank Penitentiary on the 30th November 1821. There, she was described as married with one child, a height of 4ft 11, born in Londonderry, Ireland and had light hair, a fair complexion, blue eyes and was a Catholic. The records also reveal that Catherine Kewley, who would also be transported for the same crime in 1823, was her sister and was pregnant with Margaret’s husband’s baby while Margaret was in jail. Margaret was pardoned and discharged from Millbank on the 1st May 1824, just after her sister arrived in Van Diemen’s Land.
