Biography: Elizabeth had stolen a cotton warp. She was part of a group of seven Manchester women sent to Lancaster Castle to await transportation. Prior to sailing, the Sheriff of Lancaster received a letter stating that Elizabeth and the other transportees were to be provided with shoes, two shifts, two dozen pairs of stockings and the same of handkerchiefs.
Elizabeth married fellow convict James Ogden/Hogden (ship- Alexander) at Parramatta in January 1800 and they would go onto have at least eight children, living and farming land at The Ponds. Elizabeth received her certificate of freedom in June 1810. Sadly Elizabeth died in labour or very soon after giving birth to her final child on the 22nd March 1815. Elizabeth’s burial and the baby’s baptism took place at St John’s, Parramatta the following day. Elizabeth’s husband James died too in 1820, leaving the boys orphans. The eldest three managed the family farm and applied to put their younger siblings into the orphanage.
