Biography: Elizabeth, the wife of Thomas Kearsley, was guilty of pocket picking at Manchester. Whilst being held at Lancaster Castle, Governor John Higgin requested that along with Jane Singleton she be transferred to Preston’s House Of Correction where there was more room (during building works at the castle) and they could both serve out their sentences usefully employed as they were too old to be transported. In November 1795 they would be given free pardons if they did two years in Preston’s H.O.C.
