Biography: Jane had stolen bank notes at Salford along with Betty Guy and a relative Mary Jennison, who was only imprisoned while the sessions were on. Jane was not in good health and was kept in the hospital in Lancaster Castle from October 1815, she had dropsy (heart failure) and was recorded as having 13 quarts of water extracted from her. After suffering for many months she died in jail on the 14th February 1816 and was buried two days later in St Mary’s churchyard, aged 36.
