Biography: Ann (alias or maiden name Leech) was the wife of James Jones of Manchester. She had a death sentence reprieved to seven years transportation for the theft of clothing belonging to J.Smethurst in Manchester. She had a child with her who was due to be transported along with her.
The prison surgeon would not certify her as fit to travel when the removal order came to the castle as she was consumptive (tuberculosis). Ann died in Lancaster Castle on the 28 September 1816 and was buried two days later, next door, in St Mary’s churchyard.
