Biography: Margaret had stolen a bag and £2, 15 shillings at Manchester. She already had five past convictions dating between 1812 and 1818. She was described in Lancaster Castle as having been born at Athlone, Ireland and was 5ft 3 with blue eyes, brown/ greying hair, a brown freckled complexion and was a a washerwoman. She was also a widow and left two children behind at Rochdale.

In Sydney in October 1826, she married Lancashire convict Thomas Bamford (ship- Marquis of Hastings) though in 1828 she can be found in the female factory. However, she gained her freedom by servitude and certificate in 1831. Her description at this time was similar, stating she had a dark complexion and dark brown hair and was now 54 years old. Her husband died in 1833 but I cannot find any further records for Margaret at this time.
