Biography: Along with Mary Harling and Sarah Roberts and an Edward Morgan, Elizabeth stole £40 worth of bank notes from George Ward at Liverpool. George had asked Elizabeth and Sarah if they knew where a public house could be found. They took him from Scotland Road, up a nearby passageway to Mary Harling’s house where they were joined by Edward Morgan and the four robbed him. A crowd gathered and both George’s son and a constable were sent for, proving their guilt. Sarah had been caught hiding under the bed and the money had been hidden around the house. The death sentences they had received were reprieved. Elizabeth’s criminal partners, Sarah and Mary both died in Lancaster Castle- Sarah soon after conviction in June 1811 and Mary four years later in October 1815. Only Elizabeth and Edward were transported.
Along the way Elizabeth’s last name becomes muddled in records due to human errors in handwriting- Harrop becomes Harrobb becomes Harrell. Regardless, she married Thomas Freeman (ship- Earl Cornwallis) at St Johns Parramatta in February 1813 and by 1820 and 21, she is shown working in country service. The 1822, 25 and 1828 census show the couple living and farming at Kissing Point.
