Biography: Margaret, a servant, stole from the house of Thomas Molineux at Manchester: two round printed cotton gowns, a pair of cotton stockings and numerous other articles of clothing. She had married a soldier in Manchester at 18 before being convicted and had her death sentence reprieved.
In New South Wales she married fellow convict John Tarlton/Tarlington (ship- Matilda) in 1811 though she had already had one child before marrying John called William with a William Reddin. John and Margaret lived and farmed at Prospect near Parramatta and had a son who died as a baby though later had another boy. They also brought up John’s son from his earlier marriage. She received a full pardon in 1813 thanks to a petition written by her husband, expressing her honesty, sobriety and that she had remained clear of the law since being transported . Margaret died in February 1834 and is buried at St John’s, Parramatta along with their baby John and John’s previous wife, Catherine.
