Biography: Ellen was a single woman of Manchester who had stolen calico pieces from a John Holland. She was transferred to Preston’s House Of Correction in 1818 as demolition work was beginning on Lancaster Castle’s dungeon tower where female convicts awaiting transportation were kept. She was pardoned and released from there on the 16/04/1821.
