Biography: Mary was described in Lancaster Castle jail as saying she was born at Ashton (under Lyne) (often mistranscribed as Athlone, Ireland) and had a pale complexion with light grey eyes. She was much pitted with smallpox and had a scar on the bridge of her nose and a larger scar on her left ankle bone. She was a single woman, a weaver and in good health.

In August 1827, Mary received permission and married convict John Richardson (ship Henry) at Castlereagh. John was a constable on the Bathurst Road . They had three daughters and lived at Evan. John, received a conditional pardon on his life sentence for helping to catch four ‘notorious bushrangers’ in 1834 but died in 1841 at Penrith. There is a potential of a 59 year old ‘pauper’ Mary Richardson’s death in the benevolent asylum in 1855 and buried at Camperdown cemetery but it is not possible to confirm if this is the same Mary.
