Biography: Mary was a cotton spinner from Manchester and single. After arrival she was sent to the Emu Plains Agricultural Establishment (also known as the Convict Farm). The following year she was discharged to the female factory as she was ‘unable to perform field labour’. Mary later worked as a housekeeper. She was wanted by the police in December 1824 for absconding from her employment to Mr Norris and at that time was described as being 4ft 9, hazel-grey eyes, sandy brown hair and a fair freckled complexion though still got her certificate of freedom in 1828.
