Biography: Elizabeth stole from a John Lambert. She was the wife of Thomas Clarkson of Liverpool. For a time she acted as a nurse in the castle’s hospital until she was dismissed for ‘imposing upon the surgeon’ and telling him a patient had taken her medicine when she had not. She was transferred to Preston’s House of Correction in 1818 as work was beginning on the dungeon tower where female felons awaiting transport were held at Lancaster Castle. Elizabeth was given a free pardon in November 1820 whilst still at Preston.
