Biography: Ann was a single woman from Cuerdley near Warrington. She had broken into and stolen clothing including a pair of stays, a shawl, a bedgown, a black petticoat, a pair of shoes and a great coat from the house of Elizabeth Foster at Cuerdley. She then escaped and was captured at Newcastle Under Lyne and returned to Warrington. Ann was sent with a group of male prisoners from the castle in 1792 to the Lion hulk at Portsmouth though there is no record of her actually on the hulk. Instead it appears that she was held aboard the Royal Admiral at St Helens on the Isle of Wight whilst it was making its final preparations to begin its own convict voyage. A letter from the 8th May states she had to be onboard (the Bellona) by the 18th or 19th May. Ann went on to had three children in NSW to three fathers, one of whom was Frederick Meredith who had been a free settler onboard the Bellona with her. He would later marry another woman who had also been on the same ship.
