Biography: Sarah was a single woman of Manchester. In her jail description it says she was born in Belfast that she had a florid complexion (red-faced), red hair, brown eyes, a large scar on her right thumb and was a very stout woman. Her husband was also being transported and was put on board the Justitia at Woolwich. Sarah was put on the Lord Sidmouth on the 31/8/1822. She was handcuffed onboard several times, once whilst still at Woolwich for violent and abusive language, secondly whilst at sea for violence and bad conduct with Anne Gill who she was handcuffed to for the day and thirdly again for fighting she was handcuffed to Elizabeth Warden for the day. The ship surgeon described her as ‘an abandoned woman’. In Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania), Sarah got her certificate of freedom in 1829.
