Biography: Elizabeth was a widow from Manchester who had stolen velvet. She left Lancaster Castle with a group of other female prisoners and was taken to Long Reach, Gravesend in late December 1805. She married Daniel Read in 1809. She gained a ticket of leave 1811 and certificate of freedom in 1814, seeking a replacement in 1825 as her original had been torn up! By 1822, Daniel had died and she had remarried John Toole. She was a servant in the colony. She was described as 5ft 3 1/2 inches, fair complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes and at the age of 51 was described as ‘decent looking!’ She is seen on the 1828 census, alone, as a householder on Sussex St.
