Biography: Alice was part of a group of coiners at Liverpool which also included her sister Ellen Curwen who she was transported on the Competitor with. She had coined a base half crown though claimed she was innocent. She begged the judge “do my Lord have mercy on us. I never was guilty in my life. It was the other woman who had the money”. The death sentence she received was commuted to life. Originally from Belfast, she was single, could read, was a Catholic and was described as 5′ 2″ with a sallow complexion and brown to black hair with dark hazel eyes. Alice got her certificate of freedom in 1841 and stayed in the Liverpool area of Sydney. The following year she drowned in a dam there. Ellen, her sister, reported the death.
